Hannah, the Faithful Women

Hannah was a good woman, married to Elhanan, a good man. They both worshipped God and showed kindness to others. But something was missing from Hannah's life. She wanted to have a baby. Oh, how she wanted a baby! She waited and prayed and hoped and waited some more. No baby came! Every year, Hannah went to worship at God’s tabernacle. One year she promised God that if He let her have a son, she would give the boy to be God’s servant forever. Old Eli the priest saw Hannah praying. He thought Hannah was drunk with wine because her lips moved but no sound came. Eli scolded Hannah! But Hannah told Eli about her prayer for a child and her promise to God. "Go in peace," Eli answered. "And the God of Israel grants your petition which you have asked of Him." Eli's words gave Hannah hope.

Soon great joy filled Hannah's heart. The LORD remembered her and answered her prayer. She and Elkanah had a little boy who was named Samuel (which means "Heard by God"). But would Hannah remember the LORD and her promise to Him? Yes, Hannah waited until Samuel was old enough to live at the tabernacle and help Eli in God's service. Then she brought him to the tabernacle. Every year, Hannah went to the tabernacle to worship God – and to bring a new robe she made for Samuel. God honored Hannah’s great faithfulness. After Samuel, God gave her three more sons and two daughters.

Key points to learn from the story

Hannah prayed faithfully from her heart. We children of God should constantly pray to our Lord believing that He’ll grant our wishes.

God answered Hannah’s prayer and gave her a child. Our Lord is a giving father; He doesn't withhold any good thing from those who live righteously.

Hannah kept her promise to God and gave back her child as a Lord’s servant. A Christian should always keep his words and promise something that he is able to do.

God blessed Hannah with three more children. Our Lord blesses us more when we give back part of what he has given us.

A girl is healed

Jairus was a Jewish religious leader who worshiped God and taught God's Word to others. One day, terrible trouble came to Jairus. His beloved daughter, only twelve years old, got sick. It seemed nobody could help her. It was a bad sickness. Jairus knew the girl was dying. Only one person could help Jairus’ daughter. Jairus set out to find The Lord Jesus and bring Him back to his house. Jairus found The Lord Jesus surrounded by people. He kneeled at The Lord Jesus’s feet. "My little daughter lies at the point of death," the desperate man begged. "Come and lay your hands on her that she may be healed, and she will live." The Lord Jesus went with Jairus. But they could not move quickly because of the huge crowd. Just then, servants came from Jairus' house. Their faces probably told the sad story before they spoke. "Your daughter is dead!" they told Jairus. Dead! It was too late. Jairus’ precious little girl was gone.

When The Lord Jesus heard it, He answered, "Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well." How difficult it must have been for Jairus to really believe The Lord Jesus. His daughter was dead. At the house, everybody wept and mourned for the girl. "She is not dead, but sleeping," The Lord Jesus told them. They laughed at Him. They knew the girl was dead. The Lord Jesus put them all out, took the girl by the hand and said, "Little girl, arise." Jairus was there. His wife was there. Three of The Lord Jesus disciples were there. They all heard The Lord Jesus’ words. Would the little dead girl hear them, too? The dead girl heard The Lord Jesus’ command! Her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. The Lord Jesus had raised her from the dead. The girl's parents were astonished. The Lord Jesus told them to give the girl something to eat. How happy they must have felt; how grateful to The Lord Jesus! His wonderful love and power brought their daughter back from death.

Key points to learn from the story

Jairus came to Our Lord Jesus Christ when he was in trouble. Our Father God is the right one to turn to when we have difficulties in our lives.

The Lord Jesus raised the girl from the dead when all felt skeptical and hopeless. Nothing is impossible to God. He has power to do anything that may seem impossible to our little minds.

Wise King Solomon

King David was a great man of God. During his rule, Israel had grown ten times larger than King Saul's kingdom. But now he could not rule any longer. David was old. His life on earth was nearing its end. Sick as he was, David gathered his leader’s together and publicly made Solomon king of Israel. Shortly afterwards, David died. Before David died, he talked to Solomon about obeying God and being a good king. "Walk in God's ways that you may prosper in all that you do," David told his son. That was good advice! Then Solomon sat on the throne of his father, David, and his kingdom was firmly established. One night, Solomon had a dream. In his dream, God appeared to him and said, "Ask! What shall I give you?" Solomon asked for wisdom to be a good king. The young king's request pleased God. Solomon got what he asked for but God also promised him great riches and honor.

It did not take long for people to discover Solomon's wisdom. One day, two mothers came before him, with one baby. "This woman's son died in the night, and she switched her dead baby for my live one," one lady said. "No! But the living one is MY son, and the dead one is your son," the other lady said. How could the king tell which was the true mother? Then the king said, "Bring me a sword." So they brought a sword before the king. What do you think the king was planning to do with a sword? And the king said, "Divide the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other." Then the mother of the living baby said, "O my lord, give her the living child and by no means kill him." But the other said, "Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him." So the king said, "Give the first woman the living child. She is the mother." And all Israel heard of the judgment, and they greatly respected the king. They saw that the wisdom of God was in him.

Key points to learn from the story

King Solomon obeyed his father and followed all the good advice he got from him. And his kingdom became well established and ruled his people for a long time. Likewise we should obey, respect and love our parents so that God blesses our lives.

King Solomon asked for Wisdom instead of money, wealth and worldly things. When you have wisdom from God, you’ll understand Him and His kingdom better which is more valuable than anything else.
